Our tours start and finish at the Balmoral Farmyard. After checking in you will be greeted by your guide at the Mt John Woolshed, before starting your epic off-road journey.
We stop off at the Irishman Creek Hut for a history lesson about the region. You'll hear interesting facts about our forestry development and the football-sized pine-cones grown here!
We'll take you up to one of the best locations in the Mackenzie. Swan Tarn has 360º views and on clear days you'll be able to see Aoraki Mount Cook, Lake Pukaki and beyond.
This is one of our 'sweetest stops'... pun intended! Sample pure New Zealand honey grown right here on the farm. Our honey is produced by honeybees and sold all over the world.
Have you ever experienced fresh spring water straight from the source? We're extremely lucky to live in an environment where we can! Fill your water bottle up with pure NZ water here.
This stop might be the best on the tour. We'll perch you on top of a hill with expansive views over Lake Tekapo for photos...complete with the opportunity to dress up like a farmer!
Your last stop on the tour brings you back to Balmoral Farmyard where our friendly farm animals are waiting to be fed. Keep your cameras and phones ready to snap a photo or two.
Raise your hand if you’re ready for a farm experience like no other! Our high country guided farm tours take you on an exciting adventure filled with epic landscapes, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and beautiful lake views right outside of Lake Tekapo.
During your farm tour, you will meet heaps of animals, all of which you will be able to hand feed. Meet the farmyard favourites, like our alpacas, sheep & chickens. We’ll provide the treats, you just need to provide the hands!
The photo opportunities are abundant, whether you’re an animal or landscape lover. We’re warning you now; do not forget your camera!
Your guide will share colourful stories and facts about living and working in the Tekapo area, especially life on Balmoral, Mt Hay, and Mt John stations. All were founded at the turn of last century and combined are 50,000 acres (20,000 hectares) working as one large high country farm.
They’re home to 11,500 Merino sheep, 25 horses, 240 beef cows, 100 deer and 30 alpaca – some of which will make an appearance on your tour.
And to top off an incredible day out, you can’t miss the chance to dress up like a farmer – don your gummies and pose for a picture to share with your friends and family. It’s a crack up!
Who says you can’t go off-road in style? Our 12-seater 4WD Mercedes Sprinter van is equipped to journey on the smooth and bumpy roads. The windows are plenty big so everyone has views of the stunning scenery on the drive out to our favourite spots.
The van (Sadie) has full heating and A/C capabilities, and did we mention that it’s super comfy? Another advantage? Our tours are capped at 11 people so you can enjoy the best of both worlds; small numbers and big scenes! Quick note: While we try our hardest to visit all the tour locations and see all the animals, sometimes that is not the case. Our tours are subject to farm conditions and your tour guide’s discretion.
